1898 At a private ceremony hosted by The Minister of Foreign affairs of
the Republic of Hawaii on August 12th at the Executive Building - Ali‘iolani
Hale (The House of Heavenly Rulers), the transfer of sovereignty to the
United States of America took place. This procedure of transfer assisted in
facilitating a congressional resolution of annexation that was signed into
law by President McKinley in 1900.

1900 On April 30, 1900, after a joint congressional resolution was approved
for the annexing of the Hawaiian Islands to the United States, President
William McKinley signed into law a statute providing for a government for
the Territory of Hawaii. This statute became effective on June 14, 1900.
